Chapter: What was narrated concerning walking ahead of the funeral (procession)

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ، أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي مَاجِدَةَ الْحَنَفِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ ‏

"‏ الْجِنَازَةُ مَتْبُوعَةٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِتَابِعَةٍ لَيْسَ مِنْهَا مَنْ تَقَدَّمَهَا ‏"

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

‘The funeral should be followed and should not follow. There should be no one with it who walks ahead of it.”

Al-Sindi — Hashiyat al-Sindi on Sunan Ibn Majah

قَوْله ( وَلَيْسَتْ بِتَابِعَةٍ ) فَائِدَته بَيَان أَنَّهَا مَتْبُوعَة مَحْضَة لَا تَكُون تَابِعَة أَصْلًا لَا أَنَّهَا مَتْبُوعَة مِنْ وَجْه وَتَابِعَة مِنْ وَجْه ( لَيْسَ مَعَهَا ) أَيْ لَيْسَ الْمُتَقَدِّم تَابِعًا لَهَا فَلَا يُثَاب وَقَدْ ضَعَّفَ التِّرْمِذِيّ وَغَيْره هَذَا الْحَدِيث بِحَالَةِ أَبِي مَاجِدَة وَقَدْ وُجِدَ تَضْعِيف الْحَدِيث بِذَلِكَ فِي بَعْض نُسَخ أَبِي دَاوُدَ أَيْضًا قَالَ التِّرْمِذِيّ سَمِعَتْ مُحَمَّد بْن إِسْمَاعِيل يُضَعِّف أَبَا مَاجِدَة هَذَا وَقَالَ مُحَمَّد قَالَ الْحَمِيدِيّ قَالَ اِبْن عُيَيْنَةَ لِيَحْيَى مَنْ أَبُو مَاجِدَة هَذَا قَالَ طَائِر طَارَ فَحَدَّثَنَا ا ه.…
