Authentic hadith of Sahih al-Bukhari Sahih al-Bukhari 6792

Narrator:Ā’ishah

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَتْنِي عَائِشَةُ، أَنَّ

يَدَ السَّارِقِ، لَمْ تُقْطَعْ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِلاَّ فِي ثَمَنِ مِجَنٍّ حَجَفَةٍ أَوْ تُرْسٍ‏.‏

Narrated `Aisha:

The hand of a thief was not cut off during the lifetime of the Prophet (ﷺ) except for stealing something equal to a shield in value.

A similar hadith is narrated from `Aisha through another chain.

Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani — Fath al-Bari

قَوْله ( حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَان بْن أَبِي شَيْبَة حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَة ) هُوَ اِبْن سُلَيْمَان ثُمَّ قَالَ ( حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَان حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْن عَبْد الرَّحْمَن ) وَقَدْ أَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِم عَنْ عُثْمَان هَذَا قَالَ " حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَة بْن سُلَيْمَان وَحُمَيْدُ بْن عَبْد الرَّحْمَن " جَمَعَهُمَا وَضَمَّهُمَا إِلَى غَيْرهمَا فَقَالَ " كُلّهمْ عَنْ هِشَام " وَحُمَيْدُ بْن عَبْد الرَّحْمَن هَذَا هُوَ الرُّؤَاسِيّ بِضَمِّ الرَّاء ثُمَّ هَمْزَة خَفِيفَة ثُمَّ سِين مُهْمَلَة , وَقَدْ أَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِم عَنْ مُحَمَّد بْن عَبْد اللَّه بْن نُمَيْر عَنْهُ وَنَسَبَهُ كَذَلِكَ. قَوْله ( عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَخْبَرَتْنِي عَائِشَة أَنَّ يَد السَّارِق لَمْ تُقْطَع إِلَخْ ) وَقَعَ عِنْد الْإِسْمَاعِيلِيّ مِنْ…

Malik related to me from Nafi from Abdullah ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, cut off the hand of a man who stole a shield whose price was three dirhams.

حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَطَعَ فِي مِجَنٍّ ثَمَنُهُ ثَلاَثَةُ دَرَاهِمَ ‏.‏

Authentic Sahih Muslim 1685a

'A'isha reported that during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) the hand of the thief was not cut off for less than the price of a shield, iron coat or armour and both of them are valuable.

لَمْ تُقْطَعْ يَدُ سَارِقٍ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي أَقَلَّ مِنْ ثَمَنِ الْمِجَنِّ حَجَفَةٍ أَوْ تُرْسٍ وَكِلاَهُمَا ذُو ثَمَنٍ ‏.‏

Authentic Sahih al-Bukhari 6794

A thief's hand was not cut off for stealing something worth less than the price of a shield, whether a Turs or Hajafa (two kinds of shields), each of which was worth a (respectable) price.

لَمْ تُقْطَعْ يَدُ سَارِقٍ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي أَدْنَى مِنْ ثَمَنِ الْمِجَنِّ، تُرْسٍ أَوْ حَجَفَةٍ، وَكَانَ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا ذَا ثَمَنٍ‏.‏
