Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Allah Almighty will say to the one receiving the least torment in Hellfire: 'If everything on earth was yours, would you ransom yourself with it?' He will say: 'Yes.' He will say: 'I had asked you for something easier than that when you were in the backbone of Adam: not to associate partners with Me, but you insisted on associating partners with Me.'"
Reported by Al-Bukhari (No. 6557, 3334), Muslim (No. 2805a) and Ahmad (No. 11841, 11863).
