حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَبَّاحٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّاءَ، حَدَّثَنَا بُرَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى، قَالَ سَمِعَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم رَجُلاً يُثْنِي عَلَى رَجُلٍ وَيُطْرِيهِ فِي الْمِدْحَةِ فَقَالَ ‏"‏

أَهْلَكْتُمْ ـ أَوْ قَطَعْتُمْ ـ ظَهْرَ الرَّجُلِ ‏"

Narrated Abu Musa:

The Prophet (ﷺ) heard a man praising another man and he was exaggerating in his praise. The Prophet (ﷺ) said (to him). "You have destroyed (or cut) the back of the man."

حَدِيث أَبِي مُوسَى قَالَ فِيهِ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّد بْن الصَّبَّاحِ بِفَتْحِ الْمُهْمَلَة وَتَشْدِيد الْمُوَحَّدَة وَآخِره حَاء مُهْمَلَة هُوَ الْبَزَّار , وَوَقَعَ هُنَا فِي رِوَايَة أَبِي ذَرّ " مُحَمَّد بْن صَبَّاح " بِغَيْرِ أَلِف وَلَام , وَتَقَدَّمَ الْكُلّ فِي الشَّهَادَات بِهَذَا الْحَدِيث بِعَيْنِهِ , وَأَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِم عَنْهُ فَقَالَ : " حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَر مُحَمَّد بْن الصَّبَّاحِ " وَهَذَا الْحَدِيث مِمَّا اِتَّفَقَ الشَّيْخَانِ عَلَى تَخْرِيجه عَنْ شَيْخ وَاحِد , وَمِمَّا ذَكَرَهُ الْبُخَارِيّ بِسَنَدِهِ وَمَتْنه فِي مَوْضِعَيْنِ وَلَمْ يَتَصَرَّف فِي مَتْنه وَلَا إِسْنَاده وَهُوَ قَلِيل فِي كِتَابه , وَقَدْ أَخْرَجَهُ أَحْمَد فِي مُسْنَده عَنْ مُحَمَّد بْن الصَّبَّاحِ ,…

The Prophet (ﷺ) heard a person lauding another person or praising him too much. Thereupon he said, "You killed the man," or he said, "You ruined the man." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

وعن أبي موسى الأشعري رضي الله عنه قال‏:‏ سمع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم رجلا يُثني على رجل ويُطريه في المدحة، فقال‏:‏ ‏"‏أهلكتم، أو قطعتم ظهر الرجل‏"‏ ‏(‏‏(‏متفق عليه‏)‏‏)‏‏.‏ (23).‏
