Narrator:Ali

حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ مَيْسَرَةَ، سَمِعْتُ النَّزَّالَ بْنَ سَبْرَةَ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ قَعَدَ فِي حَوَائِجِ النَّاسِ فِي رَحَبَةِ الْكُوفَةِ حَتَّى حَضَرَتْ صَلاَةُ الْعَصْرِ، ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِمَاءٍ فَشَرِبَ وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ وَيَدَيْهِ وَذَكَرَ رَأْسَهُ وَرِجْلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَشَرِبَ فَضْلَهُ وَهْوَ قَائِمٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ

إِنَّ نَاسًا يَكْرَهُونَ الشُّرْبَ قَائِمًا وَإِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم صَنَعَ مِثْلَ مَا صَنَعْتُ‏.‏

Narrated An-Nazzal bin Sabra:

`Ali offered the Zuhr prayer and then sat down in the wide courtyard (of the Mosque) of Kufa in order to deal with the affairs of the people till the `Asr prayer became due. Then water was brought to him and he drank of it, washed his face, hands, head and feet. Then he stood up and drank the remaining water while he was standing. and said, "Some people dislike to drink water while standing thought the Prophet did as I have just done."

Explanation in Arabic

صلى علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه صلاة الظهر، ثم جلس ليقضي حاجات الناس في ساحة الكوفة، واستمر كذلك حتى دخل وقت صلاة العصر، فجاؤوا له بماءٍ، فشرب وغسل وجهه ويديه، ومسح على رأسه ورجلي، ثم قام فشرب ما بقي من الماء وهو قائم، ثم قال: إن بعض الناس يكرهون أن يشربوا قيامًا، وإن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فعل مثل ما فعلت فشرب وهو قائم.

  • جواز الشرب قائمًا من فضل الوضوء، والمنع من الشرب قائمًا إنما هو على وجه الكراهية لا التحريم.

قَوْله : " حَوَائِج " هُوَ جَمْع حَاجَة عَلَى غَيْر الْقِيَاس , وَذَكَرَ الْأَصْمَعِيّ أَنَّهُ مُوَلَّد , وَالْجَمْع حَاجَات وَحَاجّ وَقَالَ اِبْن وَلَّاد : الْحَوْجَاء الْحَاجَة وَجَمْعهَا حَوَاجِيّ بِالتَّشْدِيدِ , وَيَجُوز التَّخْفِيف , قَالَ : فَلَعَلَّ حَوَائِج مَقْلُوبَة مِنْ حَوَاجِيّ مِثْل سَوَائِع مِنْ سَوَاعِيّ. وَقَالَ أَبُو عُبَيْد الْهَرَوِيُّ : قِيلَ : الْأَصْل حَائِجَة فَيَصِحّ الْجَمْع عَلَى حَوَائِج. قَوْله : ( ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِمَاءٍ ) فِي رِوَايَة عَمْرو بْن مَرْزُوق عَنْ شُعْبَة عِنْد الْإِسْمَاعِيلِيّ " فَدَعَا بِوُضُوءٍ " وَلِلتِّرْمِذِيِّ مِنْ طَرِيق الْأَعْمَش عَنْ عَبْد الْمَلِك بْن مَيْسَرَة " ثُمَّ أُتِيَ عَلِيّ بِكُوزٍ مِنْ مَاء " وَمِثْله مِنْ رِوَايَة بَهْز بْن أَس…

Authentic Sahih al-Bukhari 5615

Ali came to the gate of the courtyard (of the Mosque) and drank (water) while he was standing and said, "Some people dislike to drink while standing, but I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) doing (drinking water) as you have seen me doing now."

نَاسًا يَكْرَهُ أَحَدُهُمْ أَنْ يَشْرَبَ وَهْوَ قَائِمٌ، وَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَعَلَ كَمَا رَأَيْتُمُونِي فَعَلْتُ‏.‏
