Narrator:Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ الضَّبُّ

لَسْتُ آكُلُهُ وَلاَ أُحَرِّمُهُ ‏"

Narrated Ibn `Umar:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I do not eat mastigure, but I do not prohibit its eating."

Reported by Al-Bukhari (No. 5536).

Explanation in Arabic

قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: الضب لا آكله؛ كراهةً مني لا تحريمًا، فلست أقول إنه حرام الأكل، والضب هو حيوان من جنس الزواحف غليظ وخشن الجسم له ذنب عريض يكثر في صحاري الأقطار العربية.

  • لحم الضب حلال الأكل، وإنما امتنع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم عن أكله كراهة له.

قَوْله ( الضَّبّ لَسْت آكُلهُ وَلَا أُحَرِّمهُ ) كَذَا أَوْرَدَهُ مُخْتَصَرًا , وَقَدْ أَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِم مِنْ طَرِيق إِسْمَاعِيل بْن جَعْفَر عَنْ عَبْد اللَّه بْن دِينَار بِلَفْظِ " سُئِلَ النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ الضَّبّ , فَقَالَ : لَا آكُلهُ وَلَا أُحَرِّمهُ " وَمِنْ طَرِيق نَافِع عَنْ اِبْن عُمَر " سَأَلَ رَجُل رَسُول اللَّه صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " زَادَ فِي رِوَايَة عَنْ نَافِع أَيْضًا " وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَر " وَهَذَا السَّائِل يَحْتَمِل أَنْ يَكُون خُزَيْمَةَ بْن جَزْء , فَقَدْ أَخْرَجَ اِبْن مَاجَهْ مِنْ حَدِيثه " قُلْت يَا رَسُول اللَّه مَا تَقُول ؟ فَقَالَ : لَا آكُلهُ وَلَا أُحَرِّمهُ , قَالَ : قُلْت فَإِنِّي آكُل مَا لَمْ تُحَرِّم " وَسَنَده ض…

It is a lizard. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) raised his hand. I (Khalid) asked: Is it forbidden, Messenger of Allah? He replied, No, but it is not found in the land of my people, so I find it distasteful. Khalid said: I then pulled it and ate it while The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was seeing.
