حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ، حَدَّثَنَا شَقِيقُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ خَطَبَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ

أَخَذْتُ مِنْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِضْعًا وَسَبْعِينَ سُورَةً، وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنِّي مِنْ أَعْلَمِهِمْ بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ وَمَا أَنَا بِخَيْرِهِمْ‏

Narrated Shaqiq bin Salama:

Once `Abdullah bin Mas`ud delivered a sermon before us and said, "By Allah, I learnt over seventy Suras direct from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) . By Allah, the companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) came to know that I am one of those who know Allah's Book best of all of them, yet I am not the best of them." Shaqiq added: I sat in his religious gathering and I did not hear anybody opposing him (in his speech).

الْحَدِيث الْثَانِي قَوْله : ( حَدَّثَنَا عُمَر بْن حَفْص حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ) كَذَا لِلْأَكْثَرِ , وَحَكَى الْجَيَّانِيُّ أَنَّهُ وَقَعَ فِي رِوَايَة الْأَصِيلِيّ عَنْ الْجُرْجَانِيِّ " حَدَّثَنَا حَفْص بْن عُمَر حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي " وَهُوَ خَطَأ مَقْلُوب , وَلَيْسَ لِحَفْصِ بْن عُمَر أَب يَرْوِي عَنْهُ فِي الصَّحِيح , وَإِنَّمَا هُوَ عُمَر بْن حَفْص بْن غِيَاث بَالِغِينَ الْمُعْجَمَة وَالتَّحْتَانِيَّة وَالْمُثَلَّثَة , وَكَانَ أَبُوهُ قَاضِي الْكُوفَة , وَقَدْ أَخْرَجَ أَبُو نُعَيْم الْحَدِيث الْمَذْكُور فِي " الْمُسْتَخْرَج " مِنْ طَرِيق سَهْل بْن بَحْر عَنْ عُمَر بْن حَفْص بْن غِيَاث وَنَسَبَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ : أَخْرَجَهُ الْبُخَارِيّ عَنْ عُمَر بْن حَفْص. قَوْله : ( حَدَّثَنَا شَقِيق بْن سَلَ…

"Ibn Mas'ud addressed us and said: 'How do you want me to recite? According to the recitation of Zaid bin Thabit, when I learned seventy-odd Surahs from the mouth of the Messenger of Allah [SAW] while Zaid was with the other boys with two braids?'"

كَيْفَ تَأْمُرُونِّي أَقْرَأُ عَلَى قِرَاءَةِ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ بَعْدَ مَا قَرَأْتُ مِنْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِضْعًا وَسَبْعِينَ سُورَةً وَإِنَّ زَيْدًا مَعَ الْغِلْمَانِ لَهُ ذُؤَابَتَانِ ‏.‏
