Narrator:Abdullah ibn Mas‘ūd

حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ـ رضى الله عنه – ‏‏{‏لَقَدْ رَأَى مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ الْكُبْرَى‏}‏ قَالَ

رَأَى رَفْرَفًا أَخْضَرَ سَدَّ أُفُقَ السَّمَاءِ‏.‏

Narrated `Abdullah:

Regarding the Verse: "Indeed he (Muhammad) did see. Of the Signs of his Lord, The Greatest!" (53.18) That the Prophet (ﷺ) had seen a green carpet spread all over the horizon of the sky.

حَدِيثُهُ فِي قَوْله تَعَالَى ( لَقَدْ رَأَى مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ الْكُبْرَى ) وَسَيَأْتِي الْكَلَامُ عَلَيْهِ أَيْضًا فِي تَفْسِير سُورَة النَّجْم , وَقَوْله فِيهِ " رَأَى رَفْرَفًا أَخْضَر " كَذَا لِلْأَكْثَرِ , وَفِي رِوَايَة الْحَمَوِيِّ وَالْمُسْتَمْلِي " خَضِرًا " وَهُوَ بِفَتْح أَوَّله وَكَسْر ثَانِيه مَصْرُوفًا يَقُولُونَ أَخْضَر خَضِر كَمَا قَالُوا : أَعْوَر عَوَر , وَلِبَعْضِهِمْ بِسُكُونِ ثَانِيه بِلَفْظِ التَّأْنِيث , وَيَحْتَاج إِلَى ثُبُوت أَنَّ الرَّفْرَف يُؤَنَّث , وَقَدْ زَعَمَ بَعْضهمْ أَنَّهُ جَمْع رَفْرَفَة فَعَلَى هَذَا فَيُتَّجَه. وَقَالَ الْكَرْمَانِيُّ تَبَعًا لِلْخَطَّابِيِّ : يُحْتَمَل أَنْ يَكُون جِبْرِيل بَسَطَ أَجْنِحَته كَمَا يُبْسَط الثَّوْب , وَهَذَا لَا يَخْفَ…

from 'Abdullah (regarding the Ayah): The heart lied not in what he saw (53:11). He said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saw Jibra'il in a Hullah (dress normally made up of two pieces) of Rafraf filling what is between the heavens and the earth."

Whoever tells that Muhammad concealed part of what was revealed to him, is a liar, for Allah says:-- "O Apostle (Muhammad)! Proclaim (the Message) which has been sent down to you from your Lord." (5.67)

مَنْ حَدَّثَكَ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا صلى الله عليه وسلم كَتَمَ شَيْئًا مِمَّا أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَدْ كَذَبَ، وَاللَّهُ يَقُولُ ‏‏{‏يَا أَيُّهَا الرَّسُولُ بَلِّغْ مَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكَ‏}‏ الآيَةَ‏.‏

Regarding the Verses: 'And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave (Gabriel) and then he Gabriel) conveyed (that to Muhammad...' (53.9-10) Ibn Mas`ud narrated to us that the Prophet (ﷺ) had seen Gabriel with six hundred wings.

Authentic Sahih al-Bukhari 3234

Whoever claimed that (the Prophet) Muhammad saw his Lord, is committing a great fault, for he only saw Gabriel in his genuine shape in which he was created covering the whole horizon.

مَنْ زَعَمَ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَأَى رَبَّهُ فَقَدْ أَعْظَمَ، وَلَكِنْ قَدْ رَأَى جِبْرِيلَ فِي صُورَتِهِ، وَخَلْقُهُ سَادٌّ مَا بَيْنَ الأُفُقِ‏.‏
