Chapter: The selling of wood and grass

Authentic hadith of Sahih al-Bukhari Sahih al-Bukhari 2373

Narrator:Az-Zubayr ibn al-‘Awwām

Narrated Az-Zubair bin Al 'Awwam:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "No doubt, one had better take a rope (and cut) and tie a bundle of wood and sell it whereby Allah will keep his face away (from Hell-fire) rather than ask others who may give him or not."

Reported by Al-Bukhari (No. 2373).

Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "It is far better for you to take your rope, go to the mountain, (cut some firewood) carry it on your back, and sell it and thereby save your face than begging from people whether they give you or refuse." [Al-Bukhari].

It is better for one among you to bring a load of firewood on his back and give charity out of it (and satisfy his own need) and be independent of people, than that he should beg from people, whether they give him anything or refuse him. Verily the upper hand is better than the lower hand, and…
