Narrator:Ā’ishah

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم

إِذَا دَخَلَ الْعَشْرُ شَدَّ مِئْزَرَهُ، وَأَحْيَا لَيْلَهُ، وَأَيْقَظَ أَهْلَهُ‏.‏

Narrated Aisha:

With the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, the Prophet (ﷺ) used to tighten his waist belt (i.e. work hard) and used to pray all the night, and used to keep his family awake for the prayers.

Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani — Fath al-Bari

قَوْله : ( عَنْ أَبِي يَعْفُورَ ) بِفَتْحِ التَّحْتَانِيَّةِ وَسُكُونِ الْمُهْمَلَةِ وَضَمِّ الْفَاءِ , وَلِأَحْمَدَ عَنْ سُفْيَان عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْد اِبْن نِسْطَاس وَهُوَ أَبُو يَعْفُورَ الْمَذْكُور وَاسْمه عَبْد الرَّحْمَن , وَهُوَ كُوفِيٌّ تَابِعِيٌّ صَغِيرٌ , وَلَهُمْ أَبُو يَعْفُورَ آخَرُ تَابِعِيٌّ كَبِيرٌ اِسْمه وَقْدَان. قَوْله : ( إِذَا دَخَلَ الْعَشْر ) أَيْ الْأَخِيرُ , وَصَرَّحَ بِهِ فِي حَدِيثِ عَلِيٍّ عِنْدَ اِبْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَالْبَيْهَقِيِّ مِنْ طَرِيق عَاصِمِ بْنِ ضَمْرَةَ عَنْهُ. قَوْله : ( شَدَّ مِئْزَرَهُ ) أَيْ اِعْتَزَلَ النِّسَاء , وَبِذَلِكَ جَزَمَ عَبْد الرَّزَّاق عَنْ الثَّوْرِيِّ , وَاسْتَشْهَدَ بِقَوْلِ الشَّاعِرِ : قَوْمٌ إِذَا حَارَبُوا شَدُّوا مَآزِرَهُمْ ع…

'A’isha (RAA) narrated, ‘With the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to tighten his waist belt (i.e. keep away from his wives) and used to stay up praying all night, and he would also wake his wives (to pray and recite Qur’an etc..).” Agreed upon.
