حَدَّثَنَا أَصْبَغُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ الْمِصْرِيُّ، عَنِ ابْنِ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرٌو، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو النَّضْرِ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم

أَنَّهُ مَسَحَ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ‏.‏

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar:

Sa`d bin Abi Waqqas said, "The Prophet (ﷺ) passed wet hands over his Khuffs (socks made from thick fabric or leather)." `Abdullah bin `Umar asked `Umar about it. `Umar replied in the affirmative and added, "Whenever Sa`d narrates a Hadith from the Prophet, there is no need to ask anyone else about it."

قَوْله : ( حَدَّثَنَا أَصْبَغ ) بِفَتْحِ الْهَمْزَة وَكَأَنَّ الْبُخَارِيّ اِخْتَارَ الرِّوَايَة عَنْهُ لِهَذَا الْحَدِيث لِقَوْلِهِ " الْمَسْح عَنْ النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعَنْ أَكَابِر أَصْحَابه فِي الْحَضَر أَثْبَت عِنْدنَا وَأَقْوَى مِنْ أَنْ نَتْبَع مَالِكًا عَلَى خِلَافه ". وَعَمْرو هُوَ اِبْن الْحَارِث , وَهُوَ وَمَنْ دُونه ثَلَاثَة مِصْرِيُّونَ , وَاَلَّذِينَ فَوْقه ثَلَاثَة مَدَنِيُّونَ , وَالْإِسْنَاد رِوَايَة تَابِعِيّ عَنْ تَابِعِيّ : أَبُو النَّضْر عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَة , وَصَحَابِيّ عَنْ صَحَابِيّ. قَوْله : ( وَأَنَّ عَبْد اللَّه ) هُوَ مَعْطُوف عَلَى قَوْله عَنْ عَبْد اللَّه بْن عُمَر فَهُوَ مَوْصُول إِذَا حَمَلْنَاهُ عَلَى أَنَّ أَبَا سَلَمَة سَمِعَ ذَلِكَ م…

If the religion were based on opinion, it would be more important to wipe over the under parts of the leather socks than the upper, but I have seen Allah’s Messenger (rad) wiping over the upper parts of his leather socks. [Reported by Abu Da’ud with good Isnad (chain of narrators)].

I was with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) when he arrived at the dump of some people and passed urine while standing. I stepped aside, but he said: "Draw near." So, I drew near until I stood behind his heels, and he performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks.
