Narrator:Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ، عَنْ وَبَرَةَ، قَالَ سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ مَتَى أَرْمِي الْجِمَارَ قَالَ إِذَا رَمَى إِمَامُكَ فَارْمِهْ‏.‏ فَأَعَدْتُ عَلَيْهِ الْمَسْأَلَةَ، قَالَ

كُنَّا نَتَحَيَّنُ، فَإِذَا زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ رَمَيْنَا‏.‏

Narrated Wabra:

I asked Ibn `Umar, "When should I do the Rami of the Jimar?" He replied, "When your leader does that." I asked him again the same question. He replied, "We used to wait till the sun declined and then we would do the Rami (i.e. on the 11th and 12th of Dhul-Hijja)."

Reported by Al-Bukhari (No. 1746) and Abu Dawud (No. 1972).

Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani — Fath al-Bari

قَوْله : ( عَنْ وَبَرَة ) ) بِفَتْحِ الْوَاو وَالْمُوَحَّدَة , هُوَ اِبْن عَبْد الرَّحْمَن الْمُسَلِّي بِضَمِّ الْمِيم وَسُكُون الْمُهْمَلَة بَعْدهَا لَام كُوفِيّ ثِقَة , رِجَال الْإِسْنَاد إِلَى اِبْن عُمَر كُوفِيُّونَ. قَوْله : ( مَتَى أَرْمِي الْجِمَار ) يَعْنِي فِي غَيْر يَوْم الْأَضْحَى. قَوْله : ( فَارْمِهْ ) بِهَاءٍ سَاكِنَة لِلسَّكْتِ وَقَوْله : ( إِذَا رَمَى إِمَامك فَارْمِهْ ) يَعْنِي الْأَمِير الَّذِي عَلَى الْحَجّ , وَكَأَنَّ اِبْن عُمَر خَافَ عَلَيْهِ أَنَّ يُخَالِف الْأَمِير فَيَحْصُلَ لَهُ مِنْهُ ضَرَر فَلَمَّا أَعَادَ عَلَيْهِ الْمَسْأَلَة لَمْ يَسَعهُ الْكِتْمَان فَأَعْلَمهُ بِمَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَهُ فِي زَمَن النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ اِب…

Wabara said he asked Ibn ‘Umar when he should throw pebbles at the jamras, to which he replied, “Throw them when your imam does so.” He repeated the question and received the reply, “We used to wait for the proper time, and when the sun passed the meridian we threw them.” Bukhari transmitted it.
