Narrator:Ā’ishah

حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتْ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏

لَوْلاَ حَدَاثَةُ قَوْمِكِ بِالْكُفْرِ لَنَقَضْتُ الْبَيْتَ ثُمَّ لَبَنَيْتُهُ عَلَى أَسَاسِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ـ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ ـ فَإِنَّ قُرَيْشًا اسْتَقْصَرَتْ بِنَاءَهُ ـ وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ خَلْفًا ‏"

Narrated `Aisha:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to me, "Were your people not close to the Pre-Islamic period of ignorance, I would have demolished the Ka`ba and would have rebuilt it on its original foundations laid by Abraham (for Quraish had curtailed its building), and I would have built a back door (too)."

Reported by Al-Bukhari (No. 1585).

قَوْله : ( عَنْ هِشَام ) هُوَ اِبْن عُرْوَة. قَوْله : ( عَنْ عَائِشَة ) كَذَا رَوَاهُ مُسْلِم مِنْ طَرِيق أَبِي مُعَاوِيَة وَالنَّسَائِيِّ مِنْ طَرِيق عَبْدَة بْن سُلَيْمَان , وَأَبُو عَوَانَة مِنْ طَرِيق عَلِيّ بْن مُسْهِر , وَأَحْمَد عَنْ عَبْد اللَّه بْن نُمَيْر كُلّهمْ عَنْ هِشَام , وَخَالَفَهُمْ الْقَاسِم بْن مَعْن فَرَوَاهُ عَنْ هِشَام عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَخِيهِ عَبْد اللَّه بْن الزُّبَيْر عَنْ عَائِشَة أَخْرَجَهُ أَبُو عَوَانَة , وَرِوَايَة الْجَمَاعَة أَرْجَح , فَإِنَّ رِوَايَة عُرْوَة عَنْ عَائِشَة لِهَذَا الْحَدِيث مَشْهُورَة مِنْ غَيْر هَذَا الْوَجْه , فَسَيَأْتِي فِي الطَّرِيق الرَّابِعَة مِنْ طَرِيق يَزِيد بْن رُومَان عَنْهُ وَكَذَا لِأَبِي عَوَانَة مِنْ طَرِيق قَتَادَةَ وَأَبِي…

"The Messenger of Allah said: "Were it not for the fact that my people' - according to the narration of Muhammad he said: 'Your people' - 'have recently left Jailiyyah, I would have knocked down the House and given it two doors.'" When Ibn Az-Zubair was in power, he gave it two doors.
