حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ بِنْتِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَنَّهَا أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَتْ

لَوْ أَدْرَكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَا أَحْدَثَ النِّسَاءُ لَمَنَعَهُنَّ الْمَسْجِدَ كَمَا مُنِعَهُ نِسَاءُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ ‏.‏

‘A’ishah (Allah be pleased with her), wife of the prophet (ﷺ), said ; if the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had seen what the women have invented, he would have prevented them from visiting the mosque (for praying), as the women of the children of the Israel were prevented. Yahya (the narrator) said; I asked ‘Umrah ; were the women of Israel prevented? She said:

yes.

( لَوْ أَدْرَكَ رَسُول اللَّه صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ) : وَفِي رِوَايَة مُسْلِم " لَوْ أَنَّ رَسُول اللَّه صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأَى " ( مَا أَحْدَثَ النِّسَاء ) : مِنْ الزِّينَة وَالطِّيب وَحُسْن الثِّيَاب وَغَيْرهمَا ( كَمَا مُنِعَهُ نِسَاء بَنِي إِسْرَائِيل ) : الضَّمِير الْمَنْصُوب فِي مُنِعَهُ يَرْجِع إِلَى الْمَسْجِد وَفِي بَعْض النُّسَخ كَمَا مُنِعَتْ ( قَالَتْ نَعَمْ ) : الظَّاهِر أَنَّهَا تَلَقَّتْهُ عَنْ عَائِشَة , وَيَحْتَمِل أَنْ يَكُون عَنْ غَيْرهَا , وَقَدْ ثَبَتَ ذَلِكَ مِنْ حَدِيث عُرْوَة عَنْ عَائِشَة مَوْقُوفًا أَخْرَجَهُ عَبْد الرَّزَّاق بِإِسْنَادٍ صَحِيح وَلَفْظه قَالَتْ " كُنَّ نِسَاء بَنِي إِسْرَائِيل يَتَّخِذْنَ أَرْجُلًا مِنْ خَشَب يَتَشَرَّفْن…

Had Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) known what the women were doing, he would have forbidden them from going to the mosque as the women of Bani Israel had been forbidden. Yahya bin Sa`id (a sub-narrator) asked `Amra (another sub-narrator), "Were the women of Bani Israel forbidden?" She replied "Yes."

لَوْ أَدْرَكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَا أَحْدَثَ النِّسَاءُ لَمَنَعَهُنَّ كَمَا مُنِعَتْ نِسَاءُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ‏.‏

I heard 'A'isha, the wife of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). say: If the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had seen what new things the women have introduced (in their way of life) he would have definitely prevented them from going to the mosque, as the women of BaniIsra'il were prevented.
