حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرٍو السَّيْبَانِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الدَّيْلَمِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ قَدِمَ وَفْدُ الْجِنِّ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالُوا يَا مُحَمَّدُ انْهَ أُمَّتَكَ أَنْ

يَسْتَنْجُوا بِعَظْمٍ أَوْ رَوْثَةٍ أَوْ حُمَمَةٍ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى جَعَلَ لَنَا فِيهَا رِزْقًا ‏.‏ قَالَ فَنَهَى النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنْ ذَلِكَ ‏.‏

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud:

A deputation of the jinn came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: O Muhammad, forbid your community to cleans themselves with a bone or dung or charcoal, for in them Allah has provided sustenance for us. So the Prophet (ﷺ) forbade them to do so.

Al-Azimabadi — Awn al-Ma'bud

( قَدِمَ وَفْد الْجِنّ ) : هُوَ جِنّ نَصِيبِينَ وَكَانَ قُدُومه بِمَكَّة قَبْل الْهِجْرَة , وَالْوَفْد : قَوْم يَجْتَمِعُونَ وَيَرِدُونَ الْبِلَاد , الْوَاحِد وَافِد , وَكَذَا مَنْ يَقْصِد الْأُمَرَاء بِالزِّيَارَةِ , يُقَال : وَفَدَ عَلَى الْقَوْم وَفْدًا مِنْ بَاب وَعَدَ وَوُفُودًا فَهُوَ وَافِد وَالْجَمْع وِفَاد , وَوَفِدَ مِثْل صَاحِب وَصَحِبَ ( يَا مُحَمَّد انْهَ ) : أَمْر مِنْ النَّهْي ( أَوْ حُمَمَة ) : بِضَمِّ الْحَاء وَالْمِيمَيْنِ مَفْتُوحَتَيْنِ عَلَى وَزْن رُطَبَة : مَا أُحْرِقَ مِنْ خَشَب وَنَحْوه وَالْجَمْع بِحَذْفِ الْهَاء. كَذَا فِي الْمِصْبَاح. قَالَ الْمُنْذِرِيُّ : فِي إِسْنَاده إِسْمَاعِيل بْن عَيَّاش وَفِيهِ مَقَال.…

Ibn Mas'ud told that when the deputation of the jinn came to the Prophet that said, “Messenger of God, forbid your people to cleanse themselves with bone, animal dung, or charcoal, for in them God has provided provision for us.” So God’s messenger forbade them to do that. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

" لَمَّا قَدِمَ وَفْدُ الْجِنِّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ انْهَ أُمَّتَكَ أَنْ يَسْتَنْجُوا بِعَظْمٍ أَوْ رَوْثَةٍ أَوْ حُمَمَةٍ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ جَعَلَ لَنَا فِيهَا…

Ibn Mas'ud reported God’s messenger as saying, “Do not cleanse yourselves with excrement or bones, for that is the provision of your brethren among the jinn.” Tirmidhi transmitted it, as also Nasa'i, but he did not mention “the provision of your brethren among the jinn.”
