Chapter: A Person Has Relations With Her Other Than Intercourse

حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم

يَأْمُرُ إِحْدَانَا إِذَا كَانَتْ حَائِضًا أَنْ تَتَّزِرَ ثُمَّ يُضَاجِعُهَا زَوْجُهَا

'Aishah said; When anyone amongst us (the wives of the Prophet) menstruated, the Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) asked her to tie a waist wrapper (over her body) and then husband lay with her, or he (Shu’bah) said:

embraced her.

Al-Azimabadi — Awn al-Ma'bud

( أَنْ تَتَّزِر ) أَيْ تَشُدّ إِزَارًا يَسْتُر سُرَّتهَا وَمَا تَحْتهَا إِلَى الرُّكْبَة فَمَا تَحْتهَا. وَقَوْله تَتَّزِر بِتَشْدِيدِ الْمُثَنَّاة الْفَوْقَانِيَّة. قَالَ الْحَافِظ : وَلِلْكُشْمِيهَنِيّ أَنْ تَأْتَزِر بِهَمْزَةٍ سَاكِنَة وَهِيَ أَفْصَح , وَيَأْتِي حَدِيث عَائِشَة أَيْضًا فِي آخِر الْبَاب بِلَفْظِ : يَأْمُرنَا أَنْ نَتَّزِر وَهُوَ بِفَتْحِ النُّون وَتَشْدِيد الْمُثَنَّاة الْفَوْقَانِيَّة , وَأَنْكَرَهُ أَكْثَر النُّحَاة وَأَصْله فَنَأْتَزِر بِهَمْزَةٍ سَاكِنَة بَعْد النُّون الْمَفْتُوحَة ثُمَّ الْمُثَنَّاة الْفَوْقَانِيَّة عَلَى وَزْن اِفْتَعَلَ. قَالَ اِبْن هِشَام : وَعَوَامّ الْمُحَدِّثِينَ يُحَرِّفُونَهُ فَيَقْرَءُونَ بِأَلِفٍ وَتَاء مُشَدَّدَة , أَيْ اتَّزَر وَلَا وَجْه…

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to embrace me during my menses. He also used to put his head out of the mosque while he was in I`tikaf, and I would wash it during my menses.

Maimunah daughter of Al Harith said “When the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) intended to associate and lie with any of his wives who was menstruating, he ordered her to wrap up the lower garment(loin-cloth) and then he had association with her.

أَرَادَ أَنْ يُبَاشِرَ امْرَأَةً مِنْ نِسَائِهِ وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ أَمَرَهَا أَنْ تَتَّزِرَ ثُمَّ يُبَاشِرُهَا ‏.‏

(on the authority of his father) `Aisha said: "Whenever Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) wanted to fondle anyone of us during her periods (menses), he used to order her to put on an Izar and start fondling her." `Aisha added, "None of you could control his sexual desires as the Prophet (ﷺ) could."
