Al-Isra is the Prophet’s ﷺ night journey from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca to al-Aqsa Mosque (Quran 17:1); al-Mi’raj is his ascension through the heavens (53:13-18). It was during this night that the five daily prayers were prescribed (Bukhari 349, Muslim 162).
Its date is not established with certainty: the night of the 27th of Rajab is the most widespread, but scholars have mentioned other dates, and Ibn Hajar reports more than ten opinions. No act of worship specific to this night has been reported from the Prophet ﷺ.
Isra and Mi’raj falls on 27 Rajab of every Hijri year. As the Hijri calendar is lunar, its Gregorian date moves about 11 days earlier each year.

On Thursday, October 15, 2026, there are 82 days left until Isra and Mi’raj 2027 (expected date: Tuesday, January 5, 2027, according to the Umm al-Qura calendar). The official date depends on the sighting of the crescent moon in each country and may differ by one day.
Why does the date differ from one country to another?
Each Hijri month begins with the new crescent moon. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Fast when you see it and end the fast when you see it; if it is hidden from you, complete thirty days of Sha’ban” (Bukhari 1909, Muslim 1081). Countries do not all proceed in the same way: many wait for the crescent to be sighted on the evening of the 29th (Morocco, for example, or Nigeria, where the Sultan of Sokoto announces it), others follow Saudi Arabia’s announcement, and others use a calendar calculated in advance (Turkey, through the Diyanet). Jurists also differ on whether a sighting in one country applies to others. Hence a possible difference of one day. The dates on Assabile follow the Umm al-Qura calendar; in practice, people follow the announcement of the religious authorities in their own country: “The fast is the day you fast, the breaking of the fast is the day you break it, and the sacrifice is the day you sacrifice” (Tirmidhi 697).
On which Hijri date does Isra and Mi’raj fall?
